What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium screw of approximately 10 – 15 mm that is inserted into the jawbone to replace an absent or lost tooth.
After integration with the bone prosthesis (dentures, crowns or bridges) can be screwed or clipped onto implants.

Why dental implants?

Implants are the perfect solution to replacing missing teeth and in preventing the frustration of loose dentures, thus creating a more natural appearance and comfortable feeling.

Procedure and Placement

Placing of implants requires skill and experience to be performed successfully.

Implants can replace individual or multiple teeth.

Most of our implants are done in the chair under local anaesthetic and don’t include hospitalisation or general anaesthetic.

Depending on the site and number of implants to be placed the whole procedure can take anywhere from an hour and longer.

The preparation of the implant site takes up most of the time.  The physical placement of the implant takes only 15 minutes.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Some medical conditions are relative contraindications for placement of implants.  In most cases, if you are healthy enough to have a tooth removed you probably would be a candidate for an implant/s

Enough bone height and width is also a requirement for a successful implant and can mostly be evaluated with an x-ray and clinical evaluation.
